Hail storm The first trial of the journey. A massive hailstorm smashes the van leaving Paul in no doubt the new windscreen wipers were a good idea. | Petrol Saga 1 So we passed Amberly with the red E light glowing on the fuel gauge - a tricky decision: 20kms back in the wrong direction to fuel up, or go 40kms before the nearest petrol. This first photo shows the station at the start of the 40km stretch - permanently closed by Shell corporate.

Petrol Saga 2: False Hope In the second photo we see another Petrol station. After 24kms along the 40km route to Cheviot (and certain fuel), we encounter a petrol station, mysteriously closed on an early Saturday afternoon. Back on the road...
| Petrol Saga 3: Situation Critical Now things are looking grim - The fuel needle is slammed against the bottom of the gauge, and the red light is glowing.
|
Petrol Saga 4: Salvation Success! Rolling in on fumes, we make it to a petrol station in Cheviot and fill up. We vow not to repeat the adventure.

| Filling the Beige Bandit After not filling the van up we drove all the way to greta valley petrol station only to find that the pumps had been taken out by shell corporation.
Next we drove to cheviot 40km's to fill up with the empty light fair glowing. |
